Interference-fit press force

Compute the force required to press an inner ring onto a shaft (or an outer ring into a housing) for a cylindrical interference fit, using the maximum interference.

Ca = [(da²+df²)/(da²−df²)] + νa   Ci = [(df²+di²)/(df²−di²)] − νi
pfmax = δmax / ( df·(Ca/Ea + Ci/Ei) )   F = pfmax·π·df·Lf·μ

Requirements: guide chamfer ≤ 15% of fit length, lubrication on the fit surface, vent hole for blind bores.

Select a press with 3–3.5× the computed force. Final force shown uses 3.3×.
